Popular Motel Chain Found In Montana Sells For Big Money
One of the most recognizable hotel brands in the United States, nine of which are right here in Montana, is facing a bit of a shake-up.
I'd wager to bet that almost everyone has stayed at a Motel 6 at least once in their lives.
Even if you haven't, there's a good chance you've heard their slogan, "We'll leave the light on for you."
But even with a catchy ad campaign like that, the company has been facing bankruptcy for quite some time now.
News outlets across the country have been reporting the big news that Motel 6 has been bought out by the parent company of Oyo, a Hotel Operator based in India.
The parent company of Oyo agreed to purchase Motel 6 for half a billion dollars.
Motel 6 History
Motel 6 was founded in 1962 in Santa Barbara, California.
Their whole marketing plan was to provide travelers with a clean and comfortable room at an affordable price.
The company was purchased by Blackstone Investment Group in 2012 for $1.9 billion.
The investment firm converted Motel 6 properties into a franchise model to build the market presence.
Oyo's U.S. Expansion
Oyo was launched over a decade ago in India and has expanded its footprint across the United States in the last few years.
The company currently operates 320 hotels across 35 states and aims to add 250 more properties by the end of the year.
