New Bill Aims To Allow Cigar Bars In Montana
As cigar lounges continue gaining popularity, the Montana Legislature is considering a bill that would create a unique license endorsement for cigar bars.
This license would allow them to serve alcohol and permit indoor cigar smoking, which is currently restricted by the state's Clean Indoor Air Act.
Senate Bill 150
Ultimately, this bill proposes an alcoholic beverage endorsement for cigar bars, which would allow licensed bars to permit cigar smoking indoors.
- Only establishments with a full beverage, alcohol, and gambling license can apply.
- The cigar bar would have to generate at least 10% of its revenue from cigar sales (not including gambling or alcohol sales).
- Any cigar smoked on the premises must be purchased from that bar. You would not be able to bring in your own cigars in.
- The bar must have a humidor for cigar storage.
- All other tobacco, marijuana, or vape products would be prohibited.
- The business must be in a freestanding building to prevent smoke from spreading to non-smoking areas.

Montana Clean Indoor Air Act?
The Montana Clean Indoor Act currently bans smoking in most enclosed public areas, including bars and restaurants.
This bill would exempt cigar bars from that restriction.
There would be strict regulations regarding ventilation to ensure smoke does not impact other public spaces.
Who Can Visit a Cigar Bar
Like any other bar or casino in Montana, patrons must be 21 years or older to visit.
Montana Cigar Bar Fee
If the bill passes, establishments would be required to pay $200 a year and meet the requirements.
