Once Popular Video Conferencing Programs Will Soon Go Away In MT
Video conferencing software has gained popularity over the years, not to mention during COVID-19 when it was an absolute necessity for doing business.
Almost every company out there had to utilize some video conferencing program to conduct meetings and business while everything was shut down.
However, one of the leaders in video conferencing programs recently announced that it will no longer offer its services.
Skype Video Conferencing
Microsoft, which owns the video conferencing program Skype, recently announced that it will eliminate the program.
Believe it or not, Skype cost 8.5 billion dollars to purchase and was acquired by Microsoft in 2011.
It's no secret that Microsoft neglected Skype for quite some time.
When you compare video conferencing programs like Teams, which has a whole slew of settings and features, Skype seems pretty outdated.
It's also pretty clear that Microsoft is putting way more attention into team meetings and has ultimately abandoned Skype.
I'm unsure of the exact date, but numerous news outlets report that Skype will begin shutting down sometime in May.
Future Of Video Conferencing
Even as many employees return to the office and no longer have the ability to work remotely, I imagine video conferencing will continue to be a valuable asset in many businesses.
As we learned during the pandemic, video conferencing breaks down numerous barriers and allows companies to communicate seamlessly throughout the United States and the rest of the world.
