Whether you go to the movie theater or watch movies at home, billions of dollars are spent every year on producing and showing films across the globe.

The success or failure of a film varies on many things.

The story line and the cast are a big factor, but believe it or not the title has a lot to do with how much the movie will gross.  A great title will entice people to watch a sub-par movie while a poor title might destroy what would have been a hit movie. I was surprised at the type of movies at the top and the movies that didn't make the list.  Let me know your thoughts on this list.

What are some of the highest grossing films of all time

  • Avatar- grossed over $2.9 billion world wide (2009)
  • Avengers: Endgame- grossed almost $2.8 billion world wide (2019)
  • Avatar: The Way of Water- grossed over $2.2 billion world wide    (2022)
  • Titanic- grossed over $2.2 world wide (1997) *
  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens- grossed over $2 billion world wide (2015)
  • Avengers: Infinity War- grossed over $2 billion world wide (2018)
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home- grossed over $1.9 billion world wide (2021)
  • Jurassic World- grossed over $1.6 billion world wide (2015)
  • The Lion King- grossed over $1.6 world wide (2019) *
  • The Avengers- grossed over $1.5 billion world wide (2012)

Sadly I have only seen 2 of these movies. Which 2? I put an asterisk next to them so you would know.

Some of the most popular films with ties to Montana didn’t make the top 50 list.  Yet, they still deserve recognition.

Movies with ties to Montana:

  • Forest Gump- grossed over $678 million (1994)*
  • The Revenant- grossed over $533 million (2015)*
  • The Horse Whisperer- grossed over $186 million (1998)*
  • Hidalgo- grossed over $108 million (2004)*
  • The Untouchables- grossed over $106 million (1987)*

Yes, I have watched all of these films.  Sadly, none of them cracked the billion dollar mark.

Question for you:

What movies did I miss?  How many of the top 10 have you seen and how many of the movies with Montana ties have you seen?
