What You Need To Know About Vivid Dreams
Have you ever woken up from one of those dreams that seemed so real that you had to check your surroundings to make sure that it wasn't?
That happened to me the other day, so I decided to take a deep dive into the vivid dreams and find out what they are all about.
What Are Vivid Dreams?
I checked out the Sleep Foundation website to learn more about vivid dreams and their causes.
They have a fascinating write-up regarding vivid dreams and what causes them.
Turns out there isn't just one single thing that leads to vivid dreams: there's quite a laundry list of items.
According to the write-up, dreaming generally occurs during the final stages of sleep, which is known as REM sleep.
REM stands for rapid eye movement, which seems a little strange since your eyes are closed, but evidently, that's what happens when you're in this stage of sleep.
Your body cycles through sleep intervals about every 90 to 120 minutes.
In some cases, this final REM stage of sleep can last as long as an hour, which is generally why you'll experience the more vivid dreams in the final stage of your sleep.

What Causes Vivid Dreams?
Vivid dreams can be caused by several things, such as sleep disruptions, lack of sleep, stress, or even trauma.
Certain medications can also lead to vivid dreams; some people have reported that their dreams became more vivid when they took melatonin.
Ultimately, not much is known about vivid dreams or what exactly causes them.
I guess the biggest thing is to enjoy the ride assuming it's not a stressful dream, and if it is well hold on!
