Great Falls Public Library
The Great Falls Public Library has been a cornerstone in our community since it was founded in 1890.
By the late 1950s, the original Carnegie Library struggled to meet the demands of the city's growing population.
Recognizing the need for an up-to-date facility, Alma Jacobs, the head librarian at the time, spearheaded a campaign to secure funding to build the new library.
In 1965, the voters approved a bond for the project, and the vision began to take shape.
The new building, designed by architects McIver & Hess, focused on a sleek and practical mid-century modern style that reflects simplicity and was cost-effective.
The new library was completed in 1967 and continues to serve Great Falls.
A Series Steeped in Tradition
This year's Christmas ornament marks the 17th edition of the series.
Previous ornaments honored landmarks such as the 10th Street Bridge, Fort Shaw, and the Belt Theater.
If you'd like to get your hands on previous designs, many past ornaments are still available at the Planning and Community Development Department.
