Helpful Hacks To Keep Your Real Christmas Tree Fresh
There's nothing better than the smell and the look of the real Christmas tree.
Whether you wander out in the wilderness to chop down a tree or hit up a local Christmas tree lot, having a real tree in your home is a holiday tradition for many.
But keeping that tree looking fresh throughout the holidays can be a little bit challenging.
The last thing you want is for your tree to dry out, turn brown, and have all the needles fall off it.
Not only is it a bit of a fire hazard, but it's also just unsightly.
Check out these helpful tips and tricks to keep your real Christmas tree fresh and lifelike all season long.

Choose the Right Christmas Tree
It all starts with selection. Pick a tree with bright green needles firmly attached to the branches. If you gently run your hand along the branch and the needles fall off, the tree is already drying out, so grab a different one.
Cut the Trunk Properly
If the tree you're looking at has already been cut down, you may think you're good to put it in its stand. But think again. You should ultimately remove about half to one inch of the trunk. This helps to open up pores and allow the tree to absorb water more effectively.
Keep It Watered
Following up on the previous tip, keep your tree watered! Just because it's chopped down does not mean it's not still thirsty. A fresh treat can suck up around a gallon of water on the first day and several quarts each day after. Make sure you have a tree stand with a water reservoir at the base of the trunk.
Avoid Heat Sources
This seems obvious but keep your tree away from heater vents, fireplaces, radiators, or direct sunlight.
Use Tree Preservatives
Commercial tree preservatives or homemade mixtures (like water, sugar, and lemon juice) can help keep your tree hydrated.
Limit Decorating Weight
Avoid heavy ornaments that might damage the tree's branches. Opt for light ornaments and LED lights that don't produce much heat.
