The Great Falls Salvation Army is asking the community for help.

The iconic red kettles, a familiar sight during the holiday season, have not yet met their fundraising goal for the year in Great Falls.

According to Major Michael Halverson, the organization faces a significant shortfall that could impact its ability to serve local families.

“We are shooting for $100,000 this year,” Major Halverson said. “As of Saturday, our kettles have raised $73,519. Compared to last year at this time, we’re down from $75,084, and last year’s final total was $96,137.”

The Salvation Army has only a few kettle collection days to close the gap.

Based on current projections, they need an additional $25,000—or 25% of their goal—in just one week.

Increasing Need in Great Falls

The shortfall comes when the Salvation Army is serving more families than ever.

“We’re seeing increased demand from families who are struggling to make ends meet,” Halverson noted. “The funds from our kettles directly support these programs, and without them, it becomes much harder to provide the assistance our community needs.”

The organization’s kettle campaign is a cornerstone of its annual fundraising efforts.

Donations support various services, including emergency shelter, food assistance, and holiday gifts for children in need.

How to Help the Salvation Army

Great Falls residents can support the Salvation Army by dropping cash or coins into red kettles around the city or donating online.

Volunteers are also welcome to sign up to ring bells, a holiday tradition that raises both funds and awareness.
