In honor of National Doctor Day, which is March 30th, the financial website WalletHub took a deep dive into the best and worst states for doctors.

It turns out Montana is leading the nation, and here's why!

Best States For Doctors

The financial website WalletHub compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia using various metrics to determine which states are best for doctors.

To find out which states lead the nation, they evaluated 19 various metrics.

Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 being the most favorable.

The study examined several factors: physicians' average annual wage, hospitals, per capita, post-residency retention, and even employer-based health insurance.

Montana Is The Best State For Doctors

According to the study, Montana has the nation's highest-rated hospital system and significant financial incentives for doctors.

For example, the average annual income for an anesthesiologist in Montana is $372,000, which is one of the highest in the country.

Psychiatrists and surgeons also have excellent salaries exceeding $260,000.

In addition to the financial rewards, Montana has some of the lowest burnout rates nationwide among doctors.

Nearly 63% of post-residency medical professionals in Montana stay in Montana compared to other states.
