Staggering Number Of Montana Teens Now Use ChatGPT For Homework
Artificial intelligence has infiltrated almost every aspect of our lives, and the same can be said for education.
Recent studies have revealed that more students are utilizing ChatGPT for their schoolwork.
It's one thing to use technology as a helpful tool for learning; it's another topic of discussion to allow the robot to do the work for you.
Using ChatGPT For Homework
Pew Research Center recently surveyed United States teens to determine whether they use ChatGPT for schoolwork.
Here is what the survey revealed.
- The percentage of U.S. teens aged 13 to 17 using ChatGPT for academic purposes has doubled, from 13% in 2023 to 26% in 2024.
- Most teens (73%) still haven’t used the chatbot for school-related tasks.
- Older students lead the charge: 31% of 11th and 12th graders use the technology.

Teens’ Opinions on ChatGPT
The survey also dug into how teens feel about using ChatGPT.
Overall, the study revealed that teens are somewhat divided about whether it is appropriate to use technology for school tasks.
- 54% of teens in favor and only 9% against.
- For solving math problems, 29% find it acceptable, while 28% believe it’s not.
- Writing essays is the least supported use, with only 18% approval and 42% opposition.
- Many teens remain unsure, with 15% to 21% uncertain about these scenarios.
Whether educators and school districts like it or not, it's clear that students are using ChatGPT and integrating it into their schoolwork.
What remains to be seen as how this will affect the long-term outcome of learning.
In my opinion, technology has allowed people to become even more disconnected from reality and has allowed society to become lazier by the day.
