Do you think you've got what it takes to join the Montana Highway Patrol?

Montana Highway Patrol is looking for both entry-level and lateral applications during this current hiring.
MHP Entry-Level Applicants
- Ability to graduate from the Montana Law Enforcement Officer Basic Course.
- Prior law enforcement experience is not required.
Lateral Applicants
- Graduated from the Montana Law Enforcement Academy Basic Course within the last three years.
- Have a current Basic Law Enforcement POST Certificate with no more than a five-year break in service from the date of hire in Montana.
- Out-of-state lateral applicants undergo additional training.
Minimum Requirements For Montana Highway Patrol Trooper
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- U.S. citizenship and Montana residency upon appointment.
- At least 18 years old.
- Meet vision and physical fitness standards.
- Demonstrate good moral character.
MHP Selection Process
- Candidate Screening: Review of qualifications and minimum requirements.
- Written Testing: Includes sections on math, reading comprehension, grammar, and incident report writing.
- Objective Interview: Review qualifications via video interview.
- Job Suitability Assessment: Completion of a personality profile.
- Background Investigation: Extensive background checks, including criminal history, driving records, and personal references.
- Physical and Psychological Evaluations: Ensure fitness and suitability for duty.
- Panel Interview and Presentation: Structured interview and presentation on trooper duties.
