They say two things are always certain in life: death and taxes. While that might be true to some, I would argue you can chunk a third item in there - health insurance.

Health Insurance in Montana

Maybe it's just me, but health insurance has always been an unusual concept: you pay for something that you hope you never have to use.

Now, I understand there are preventative uses for health insurance, right? Dental cleanings, check-ups, etc. But when you get injured or really sick, you have to go to the hospital and hope that your medical bill doesn't come back to bite you... and let's hope you hit that "low" deductible!

Again - we don't want to use it, but in most common cases, we have to have it or we won't be able to afford to get better. As a matter of fact, a record-high 66,336 enrolled through Montana's health marketplace during the enrollment period in 2024 according to HealthInsurance.org.

Like I said, it might just be me who thinks of health insurance and that's totally okay. There are, however, some major changes coming to Montana's health insurance marketplace that could make things a little trickier.

A Big Change Is Coming To The Montana Health Insurance Marketplace

If you're planning on getting your health insurance through Cover Montana, Montana's health insurance hub, things are about to change in September according to a statement released on their site.

"In February 2025, we learned that federal Navigator funding across the country would be reduced by 90%," Cover Montana said on their official site.

"As a result, Cover Montana’s capacity to provide direct enrollment assistance will be very limited starting in September 2025."

From the way it sounds, the marketplace won't be going anywhere but it will be a little more tedious and require more patience to get your insurance through Cover Montana.

"The Cover Montana Helpline can still provide phone and virtual assistance with Marketplace coverage; give them a call at (844) 682-6837 to talk through your options," Cover Montana says on their site.

"You’ll still find trusted tools, resources, and tips to help you get covered at covermt.org."

It's probably best to get a jump on any of your insurance needs now, appointments to speak to reps are already filling up! Happy huntin'!
