What You Need To Know About Naloxone In Montana Schools
As fentanyl continues to be a concern here in Montana, state officials are working to educate and protect Montana students.
Attorney General Austin Knudson recently launched a new initiative to distribute opioid reversal kits to middle and high schools across the Treasure State.
The goal of this program is to combat overdose deaths among students in Montana.

The life-saving kits contain naloxone, which is a drug used to reverse an opioid overdose.

Knudsen emphasized the importance of having these kits in schools, stating,
“These naloxone kits will help us save lives. The fentanyl crisis is widespread in Montana and it’s making its way into every inch of our communities, including schools. Educating students on the dangers of fentanyl is the first step in preventing more tragedies, but having naloxone on hand will help schools be prepared for a worst-case scenario."
Overdose Deaths In Montana
According to the Montana Attorney General's office, in 2022, 326 children under the age of 18 visited emergency rooms due to overdoses.
During this time frame, fentanyl seizures skyrocketed across Montana.
During the first quarter of 2024, 163,184 dosage units of fentanyl were confiscated in Montana, compared to just over 65,000 the previous year.
